There was an annoying bug that was occurring on Apple devices when the layer drop down menu was selected on the map. Turns out the screen was auto-zooming, and was an easy fix. I disabled this “feature” and now it works as expected.
Lorenzo Swell
Lorenzo is a beast of a storm, both in size and intensity. It peaked at category 5, which is highly unusual for it’s position in the Eastern North Atlantic. It also has tropical storm force winds that extend out up to 200 miles from its center.

NHC just officially upgraded Lorenzo to a category 5 hurricane.

For comparison, here are all Atlantic category 5 hurricanes in modern records (1950-2018), for the full calendar year (left) and on/after September 20th (right).

What does this mean for the East Coast? We should start to get a long period swell filling in tomorrow (Monday). Unfortunately, a local weather system is bringing Northeast wind with it and will probably make all but the most protected spots bumpy and drifty. Wednesday and Thursday, the winds look more cooperative, and the global models are showing the swell sticking around until then.
Keep an eye on this site as the 3 day forecast extends out to those days, for the best spots and times go surf.
