1. Overview
This Privacy Policy describes how pinpointsurf LLC ("pinpointsurf," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website at pinpointsurf.com, our iOS and Android mobile applications, and related services (together, the "Services").
The short version: we collect what we need to run a surf forecasting service — your account email, your location when you allow it, your subscription status, and usage analytics. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not serve third-party advertising.

2. Information You Provide
2.1 Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication identifiers. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the information you authorize that provider to share (such as your email address or a private relay address, and optionally your name). Authentication is managed through Firebase Authentication (a Google service).
2.2 Preferences and saved content. Spots you save, notification preferences, units, and similar settings are stored with your account so they sync across your devices.
2.3 Communications. If you email support or privacy addresses, we receive your email address and the contents of your message.
2.4 Surveys and beta programs. If you voluntarily participate in a survey or beta program, we collect the information you choose to provide (which may include your name, email address, and mailing address if requested, for example, to send stickers or merchandise). This information is used only for the stated purpose of the survey or program.
3. Information Collected Automatically
3.1 Device and usage information. When you use the Services, we collect device type, operating system version, app version, language, IP address, and how you interact with the Services (screens viewed, features used, session length). We use Firebase Analytics for this purpose.
3.2 Cookies and similar technologies (website). Our website uses cookies and local storage for essential functions such as keeping you signed in and remembering preferences, and for analytics as described above. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling essential cookies may break sign-in.
4. Location Information
Location is central to what pinpointsurf does, so here is exactly how we use it:
- Precise location (with your permission): used to center the map on your area, show nearby surf spots and forecasts, and power any location-based features. Location is processed to fulfill your request and is not used to build a movement history of you.
- Approximate location: we may infer a general region from your IP address to provide sensible defaults (such as initial map position).
- Your control: location permission is optional. You can use the Services without it by navigating the map manually, and you can revoke permission at any time in your device settings.
We do not sell location data or share it with third parties for advertising.
5. Subscription and Purchase Information
Paid subscriptions are billed by Apple (App Store), Google (Google Play), or — for purchases made on our website — Stripe, our payment processor. We never receive or store your credit card number or full payment details. For web purchases, Stripe collects and stores your payment information and shares with us limited details such as your billing email, card brand and last four digits, and transaction status. Across all channels, we receive transaction and entitlement information — such as the product purchased, purchase and renewal dates, and subscription status — through the billing provider and through RevenueCat, our subscription management provider. This information is linked to your account so that your paid features work across your devices.
6. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- provide, maintain, and improve the Services, including delivering forecasts for your area;
- create and manage your account and sync your preferences across devices;
- process and manage subscriptions and verify entitlements;
- send notifications you have requested (such as swell or condition alerts);
- respond to support requests;
- monitor usage, diagnose problems, and improve reliability and performance;
- protect the Services against fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access (including automated scraping); and
- comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your personal information for third-party advertising, and we do not sell it to anyone.
7. How We Share Information
We share personal information only with:
- Service providers (processors) that operate parts of the Services on our behalf: Google (Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Google Cloud Platform hosting and storage, Firebase/Google Analytics), RevenueCat (subscription management), Stripe (payment processing for website purchases), Mapbox (map rendering; map interactions may transmit your IP address and map viewport to Mapbox), Cloudflare (DNS and network security), and Apple/Google (app distribution and billing). These providers are bound by their own privacy commitments and process data only to provide their services.
- Legal and safety: we may disclose information if required by law, or if reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of pinpointsurf, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: if pinpointsurf is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction; this Policy would continue to apply until amended with notice.
We do not share personal information with data brokers or advertising networks.
8. Your Choices; Account Deletion
- Access and correction: you can view and update your account information in the app, or contact support@pinpointsurf.com.
- Account deletion: you can delete your account at any time in the app (tap your initials in the top bar → Account → Delete account) or by emailing support@pinpointsurf.com. Deleting your account removes your account record and associated personal data from our systems, subject to Section 10 (retention). Note: deleting your account does not cancel an active App Store or Google Play subscription — cancel those through your Apple or Google account settings first. Website (Stripe) subscriptions are cancelled automatically when your account is deleted.
- Location: revoke permission in device settings at any time.
- Notifications: disable in device settings or in the app.
- Analytics: on the website, you can opt out of Google Analytics with the browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/.
9. Your Rights
Regardless of where you live, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting support@pinpointsurf.com. We will verify your request (typically by confirming control of the account email) and respond within a reasonable time, and in any case within any period required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
10. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Services. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legitimate business or legal purposes — for example, transaction records, fraud prevention, or backup systems from which data is purged on a rolling schedule. Aggregated or de-identified data (such as anonymous usage statistics or forecast verification data) may be retained indefinitely.
11. Security
We use commercially reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit, access controls, and hosting on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
12. Children
The Services are not directed to children under thirteen (13), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact support@pinpointsurf.com and we will delete it.
13. Users Outside the United States
The Services are operated from the United States and intended for users in our U.S. coverage areas. If you use the Services from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. For material changes, we will provide notice by email or in-app notice before the changes take effect. The "Last Updated" date above reflects the current version. Continued use of the Services after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
